PSS SETTLEMENT REACHED/ RALLY CANCELLED
Friday, June 9, 2006
Dear Local 2748 Member,
With your help, late today your PSS bargaining team reached tentative agreement with the State for the 2005-2007 contract!
We have agreed to union security language that will improve the ability of all our stewards and elected leaders to represent members. A process has been agreed to that puts us on the road to improved labor management relations. This agreement calls for ongoing mutual discussion while preserving our right to grieve or pursue other legal action if necessary.
We were able to improve the new DOC Fleet Policy by adding protections specifically for PSS members. Also, the agent cash/comp option is finally memorialized in this new Master Agreement.
Without a doubt, your willingness and enthusiasm in organizing the June 14th Rally for our Contract made the difference in creating an environment where meaningful bargaining could take place. Local 2748 members once again demonstrated their ability to stick together to get the job done! As tentative agreement has now been reached, the June 14th rally is cancelled.
The bargaining team will be working at Council 24 next week, preparing for the Bargaining Unit Conference and contract ratification by the membership. Further information will be made available soon.
Thank you for your tremendous patience and support for the union and the bargaining team throughout this process. We sincerely appreciate it.
Solidarity,
Tom Corcoran Georgette Gehring Amy Huss Jennifer Merlin Laura Welle
